Nicaragua

Nestled in the mountains in the Boaco region of Nicaragua sits a village that stole our hearts in 2014. The people of Las Quebradas are kind and hospitable, joyful, and hungry for more of Christ. Las Quebradas is the hub for several small villages that collectively make up the larger El Coyol Community. Families in these communities are some of the most impoverished in the area and try to find and keep agricultural jobs, earning money by selling milk and eggs and by trading cattle in larger cities.

Since 2014, we have seen community members put their faith in Jesus for the first time and men and women gather to worship. We pray that the Lord would continue to look upon this community with favor and pour out His spirit over them.

New Church: Iglecia Bethel

In 2020 we felt called to partner with the people of El Coyol to build a new church to serve the community’s 220 families. With the help of generous donations, Set in Motion raised $20,050 to fund the building of the church, and to purchase musical instruments and audio equipment for services. They had their first service in the completed building in September 2021.

New Pastor

Last fall, it became clear that the new church required full-time pastoral leadership and Pastor Martin could not provide that from Jinotega. So, the leaders of Iglesia Bethel and hired a new pastor, Douglas Gutierrez.

Pastor Gutierrez is a seasoned preacher with a passion to reach the lost with the gospel. He is committed to making Iglesia Bethel a center for outreach and evangelism to the surrounding villages. We’re thrilled to have Pastor Gutierrez aboard and we look forward to seeing how God will use his ministry in the coming years.

New Directions?

The people of Iglesia Bethel are now in the planning stages of building a house behind the new church that will serve as a parsonage for the Pastor, as housing for short-term missionaries and as the location for “children’s church” during Sunday services. The house is estimated to cost $15,000 and construction will begin as soon as the money has been raised.
